Geographic situation
«Bafgh» is 17633.8 kms2 large, located 110 kms to the south east of Yazd city that lies on the border of the central desert of Iran. This township shares its borders with «Ardakan» to the north, with «Yazd» and «Mehriz» to the west, with «Kerman» to the south and with «Loot desert» to the east.
The height at this town from sea level is about 995 meters. Its highest point that is about 3002 meters higher than sea level is «Bonlokht mount». Bafgh `s lowest point is «Darreanjir desert» which is 905 meters higher than sea level.
It `s hot in the summer and it `s milder than other parts of Yazd in winter.
Bafgh was called «Ghasabeh tayyebeh» (the pure oasis) and also «Darol shojaeh» (the home of courage) in the past.
According to the last country divisions (1999 AD), Bafgh has been divided into two parts, «Markazi» (central) and «Bahabad» plus six village with the population of 56000. |
